Newsletter Launch
We’re happy to announce the launch of the Throbbing Rose Collective Newsletter!
The Throbbing Rose Collective is a vibrant grassroots community of artists, performers, writers, educators, curators, and arts producers dedicated to celebrating and elevating queer art in all its forms. Founded during Toronto’s World Pride in 2014, our collective initially produced the renowned NUIT ROSE Festival of Queer Art and Performance—a spectacular night inspired by Toronto’s Nuit Blanche. Over six years, Nuit Rose showcased over 266 unique art and performance projects, transforming Toronto’s Church-Wellesley Village and West Queen West neighbourhoods into vibrant hubs of queer creativity, community engagement, and joyful expression.
Highlights from past events include themed exhibitions, public performances, the dazzling Light Parade, the popular Art Bus, and lively social hubs at our pop-up Art Bars.
Our mission has consistently been to promote queer arts through accessible, inclusive programming, financially supporting our featured artists through grants from organizations like the Ontario Arts Council, Toronto Arts Council, and Community One Foundation, along with generous corporate sponsors and community partners.
After a hiatus during the global pandemic, founding members and new collaborators regrouped in late 2023 to revitalize and expand the Collective. Embracing a broader focus beyond our flagship Nuit Rose festival, we now engage in year-round curatorial projects, artist residencies, exhibitions, and events—highlighting the creative practices of our diverse membership. Recent initiatives include the Queer Up North residency in Temagami, Ontario, and the upcoming residency at Pouch Cove, Newfoundland, along with participation in Toronto's Nuit Blanche.
Moving forward, you can expect updates about our dynamic roster of programming, governance discussions, and behind-the-scenes looks into our ongoing evolution as a collective. Join us in this exciting new chapter, and stay tuned for announcements about our Queer Up North artist residency in August 2024, Nuit Blanche Toronto in October 2024, and the highly anticipated return of Nuit Rose in 2025.
Together, let’s continue celebrating, supporting, and amplifying queer art.
