Jean Marc Raymond
Jean Marc Raymond, a versatile artist from Georgetown, Ontario, with roots in the North, is also involved in public education through the Halton District School Board. Growing up in French-speaking North Bay, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Nipissing University, majoring in Visual Arts and French. Following experiences at the WKP Kennedy Gallery and the Near North Mobile Media Lab, he engaged in international collaborations in Seoul, South Korea, organizing and participating in group exhibitions. Upon returning to Canada, he pursued education and has since spent over a decade in public schools. Currently active in the Near North Region Curatorial Collective and the Broken Forest group, his art focuses on nature's givers, particularly those in northern forests, using drawing, watercolor, and embroidery to depict micro landscapes. As a queer artist, he challenges gendered aesthetics and methods, incorporating stitchwork and embroidery to create soft, caring depictions of the land.
